After a year of pandemic and division that was also witness to healing from essential frontline health workers and unity on the streets against racial injustice, it is good to pause and notice what we all have in common. No matter where we live in our segregated city, no matter what divides us, we share needs and desires, sights and sounds, hopes and dreams. Of course, these are manifested, interpreted, and realized differently, but ZIP MKE asks: What if we could see all of them side by side, on the same level, not so far apart?

Details:

  • Interpret the week’s challenge with your camera.

  • Take your photo(s) in one of Milwaukee’s 28 ZIP Codes.

  • Post photos to Facebook and/or Instagram with #zipmke, the week’s challenge hashtag, and a ZIP Code hashtag (where the photo was taken) For example: #zipmke #zipmkesky #53205.

  • Multiple posts from multiple ZIP Codes are encouraged so we can represent as much of the city as possible.

  • Post photos by Saturday 11:59 pm to be eligible to win a ZIP MKE t-shirt and sticker! Winner will be determined by the most “likes” on Facebook and Instagram combined by the following Saturday.

  • The next top 3 posts each week will be featured here and on our social media.

  • What if I don’t have Facebook or Instagram? No problem! Email submissions to contact@zipmke.com with your name and the two hashtags in the subject line.

  • What if I am 13 years of age or younger? No problems! Submit your photos here and get a parent to give you permission to participate.

  • Usage rights: Submitting a photo(s) to a weekly challenge via social media hashtag, email, or Google Forms means that you give ZIP MKE permission to re-post, share, and use your photo(s) on social media, on its website, and in future exhibitions, with photo credit.
